The Bellied Root Vessel is a hand blown glass vessel that has clear glass elements that  have been applied during the blowing process. Bernard Katz feels that this adds  greater three dimensional relief to the surface of this glass vessel. The clear glass bits are applied while the glass piece is hot. While living and working in Colorado, the backdrop of aspen trees provided the inspiration for the Birch Vase. Birch trees and aspen trees seemed similar to the novice  like myself. Since Bernard grew up in Pennsylvania, he decided to name this hand blown glass vessel after the birch tree. The Birch Vessel is comprised of multiple thin layers of color.
